Turkish Islamic Art Museum

It is the first Turkish museum including all the Turkish and Islamic works of art. In the alms house which is in the social complex of Süleymaniye Mosque, which is one of the most important constructions of Mimar Sinan, the museum was opened in 1914 with the name "Evkaf-1 İslamiye Müzesi” (Islam Foundations Museum). It took the name “Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum” after the proclamation of the republic. In 1983, it was moved to İbrahim Paşa Palace. It was awarded with jury's special award for the museum of the year competition of European Council in 1984 and the award that is given by European Council - UNESCO for its works on making children love the cultural heritage in 1985. It is among the limited number of museums on this subject and has very privileged works of art of almost all periods and genres of Islamic art with its collection consisting of more than 40.000 works of art.
